Tensioning Ratchet
A good tip for anglers fishing \'on the reel\' when after conger/huss/bass: if sea conditions make having the reel straight on the ratchet a problem, then take a tuck behind the free-spool lever or sideways across the end plate to increase the friction. Fish can still take line but the effect of the swell/tide/wind will be much reduced.
