>> Hints and Tips >> RETURNING CONGER EELS

Returning Conger Eels

If you fish the shallower beaches in the Bristol Channel sooner or later you are going to catch a conger eel. Once you have landed your eel and unhooked it you then need to return it to the sea. This may at first seem a simple mater of placing it back in the sea but they often do not want to play ball and proceed to swim straight up the beach and out of the water again!

This is where the hint bit comes in. When you put the eel back rather than helpfully pointing it out to sea instead return it so that it is facing towards the beach. This may appear backwards but 9 times out of 10 as soon as you let it go it turns around and swims back into deeper water
